Hearing
loss is now the number one disability in the world.
Exposure
to noise is the number one reason for hearing loss.
A
major amount of this noise is encountered indoors.
A
school gymnasium can have more than 90 db of noise.
Most
school classrooms exceed the maximum noise levels recommended.
15%
of people under the age of 18 already have
hearing loss.
Hearing Possiblities, does not believe that hearing loss should become a disability. Some of the negative psychological effects of hearing loss are:
shame, guilt and anger,embarrassment,problems concentrating,sadness or depression,worry and frustration,anxiety and suspiciousness,insecurity,self-criticism and low self-esteem/self-confidence.
Untreated hearing loss can also make the person irritable and less tolerant towards other people.

Hi everyone my name is Chris Hampton, and Hearing Possibilities is my webpage.
I want you all to know I am going in for surgery to enable me to use a Baha Implant for both ears.
I am 63 years old and very active.
I have had three surgeries on my left ear and could not hear out of it.
I lost my hearing in my left year about ten years ago and found out my right ear could hear well enough to wear a hearing aid.
I then had two surgeries on my left ear and neither could restore my hearing.
I have tried Baha devices on both sides and they seem to work quite well and another plus is that I won’t have to wear a mold in my ear which can aggravate ear infections.
I will document my experience on my website as I realize that there is little information on Baha implants available to the general public.

Nov. 4 Had my surgery and after I woke up and went home felt just fine.
That night was quite uncomfortable as had both sides done at once and could not find a comfortable position for my head on the the pillow. Took something for the pain and went to sleep ok.
It took a lot of care to make sure all healed well but my wife was a lot of help. The majority of the pain went away after about the 3 night.
Feb 1: I got my bone conduction hearing aids and was somewhat disappointed that I could not hear on my cellphone or regular telephone with out buying a $300.00 telecoil device to plug into my hearing aid, but was gloriously happy to hear out of my right ear which I have not been able to hear out of for 10 years.
It was hard to plug the devices into the snaps in my skull but very easy to knock them off when taking my shirt off.
It is difficult to keep the snaps in my skull clean, but I have come up with ways to handle that.
Just like any other device it takes a bit of getting use to. It is great to be able to tell where sound is coming from and to hear in group settings.
